Increased paper usage for in box transit packaging- Ranpak BV

12/01/2012 00:00:00

Over the last couple of years, packing products in boxes with paper compared to plastics (air pillows, bubble wrap) has seen a marked growth both in the UK and Worldwide.

Ranpak, the leading international manufacturer of paper cushioning and voidfill systems, has noticed several reasons for this:

Firstly, Warehouse and Logistics Managers are finding that paper is helping to reduce damage/returns due to its strong shock absorption properties. Ranpak engineers have devised a rigorous testing process to scientifically prove the level of protection provided by the paper.

Handling costs are also low as the converters can be pre-programmed to produce specified lengths of packaging material or produce it on demand, all from easy-to-store and load rolls/packs, with costs further driven down by the high speed at which the packaging material is produced right at the point of use.

Alongside reduced costs is the reduced environmental impact of paper which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, and is sourced from FSC certified suppliers.

The growth is particularly noticeable in the ecommerce industry - which encounters the need to ship varying volumes and sizes of fragile products such as homeware and cosmetics - and also the heavy industries of automotive and engineering parts. In both cases speed and performance are paramount.

In reaction to this growth, Ranpak has introduced several new innovations such as recycled paper options, the PadPak CC compact bench-based machine for smaller products, and automated integrated systems for large warehousing operations.
